What’s not to love about autumn & winter? It’s the season of cosy coats & big woolly scarfs, conker collecting and crunchy leaves & fingers crossed snow, plus all the fun of Halloween and Bonfire Night too!
What to do with your kids? Here’s a few ideas to help you out:
Go Pumpkin picking
Don’t go to your usual supermarket for a pumpkin, try out a real pumpkin patch instead! It’s a fun day out for the whole family, wrap up warm and head out to your nearest patch. What kid wouldn’t love this, full of all different sizes and colours and loads of places even have carving activities on site too. We love it at Farmer Copleys.
Jump in a pile of leaves
Wrap up warm & go on a family autumnal walk and jump in a pile of crunchy leaves, kids will love this!
Leafy Crafts
How about some leafy crafts! When out on that family walk & jumping in piles of leaves. Why not get the kids to pick their favourite ones, they will have so much fun choosing the best colours & shapes to take home. Then put some newspaper on the floor and grab some paint, let yours kids imagination run wild.

Trick or Treating

Go Apple Picking
September through to October is the perfect time to visit an orchard and pick a range of different apples. Twist upwards rather than pulling down, if they’re ripe and ready, it won’t be hard to pick!
Visit a Deer Park
October is the best time of year to visit a deer park, because it’s the start of rutting season. Rutting is part of a deers mating rituals as the males try to impress the females, but for us, it means the chance to see deers locking antlers on a head-to-head battles. Just remember to stay safe and keep dogs on leads.

Make Toffee Apples
From the apples you picked, turn them into delicious toffee apples. No kid will say no to this!
You can even add some of your own charm to them and dip them is your favourite treats before the cool down, my favourite is chocolate sprinkles and marshmallows :)
Make Apple & Pumpkin Puree
Getting kids involved in healthy eating is always brilliant. Use the pumpkins & apples you have picked to make their teeny tiny siblings the perfect autumnal puree.
Use a blender or one of these really useful Babycooks from Beaba which are perfect for making baby puree as it steam cooks & blends the food for you. It also has defrosting and reheating functions too.
Do you want to build a snowman?
When winter arrives and fingers crossed we get some snow, we all know what Britain’s unpredictable weather can be like! Take the kids out into the garden and see who can build the best snowman.
Ice Skating
Try out ice skating, wrap up in your woolly hats & scarfs and take to your nearest ice rink. Most city centres build little rinks near Christmas time for all the family to come along and enjoy.
Hot Chocolate & Movie Night
Nothing beats a family night in all cosied up with blankets, hot chocolate and not forgetting the cream & marshmallows. Pick your favourite Christmas film and relax and enjoy some family time. I love Elf at Christmas, never gets old and everybody loves Buddy the Elf.
Build a fort
If there’s enough snow, get yourself outside with the kids and build a snow fort. But if you’re looking for something a little warmer, make your fort in the living room. Get creative with some pillows and blankets! See who can make the best fort and even have a cosy slumber party one night.
Make paper snowflakes
Get the house ready for Christmas with some paper snowflakes, who doesn’t remember having fun making these as a kid. I loved making these and filling the living room window with them. Bring the winter wonderland inside!
Make Monster Gloves
Prepare your kids for the colder seasons with these awesome monster gloves. Let them decorate them however they like with felt, pompoms and googly eyes. *Use fabric glue and make sure you let them dry before putting them on.
A Winters Walk
Get the wellies on and go explore the winter wonderland right outside your front door, catch snowflakes and have a snowball fight.
